Sorry, a Error: DNS entry already exists, please delete it first (from all servers in the dns cluster)

Sometimes when you add a new add-on domain on your cPanel account, you might encounter an error “Account Creation Status: failed
Sorry, a DNS entry for domainname.com already exists, please delete it first (from all servers in the dns cluster)”

The above error generally means that a DNS zone record for the domain you are trying to add exists on the server and we need to delete it.

There are two reasons for this error message:

1) The account you are trying to add already exists.

2) The DNS Zone record not removed even after the deletion of the account.

To resolve the issue, first you need to check if the add-on domain already exists on the server or not. You can check it by accessing the backend of the server and executing the following command.

grep domainname.com /etc/userdomains

If the domain already exists, execute the command.

/scripts/killacct accountname

This will remove the account from the server and the DNS entry will be removed. However, if the domain does not exist and if it is just a DNS Zone existing on the server, you can remove the Zone by executing the command.

/scripts/killdns accountname

Now the Zone is removed and you will be able to create a new add-on domain.
